Photographer’s Note

Oeschinensee, one of the most beautiful lakes in Switzerland, is situated above the village of Kandersteg in Bernese Oberland. It has been photographed many times with the mountain peaks surrounding the emerald green lake, and I was hoping for some nice light too. But when we arrived there, all the mountains were covered with thick clouds, in fact the clouds were hanging quite low above the lake surface....

Hello Alexander,
The low lying clouds bring a particular atmosphere and prove that it is not always necessary to have a glorious blue sky to make a fine landscape image. The composition has good balance and is well framed. I like the soft natural colours and the way the tones in the rock face have been brought out.

Goede morgen Alexander,

Nu ben ik vaak in Zwitserland geweest maar dit meer nog nooit gezien. En ook al was je misschien niet happy met dat licht, die zware bewolking die er boven hangt vind ik toch wel erg fraai en geeft beslist iets extras aan de foto zo tegen die rotswand aangeplakt.
Ik mag dit wel zien....zeer fraai fotowerk.

Hello Alexander,

This looks like the Trollenburg Terror, slowly creeping down the mountainside! It does create an inner feeling of apprehension!

This is a well composed shot with the line of cloud hanging above the lake. The lighting and colors are fine with excellent sharpness and detail. The off center placement of the building works well here giving the shot a nice sense of direction.

It is a really unusual effect to see the low cloud so clearly as it descends the mountain face. The image is very well composed with the river running into the lake from the corner and the building in the other corner. Textbook thirds composition with three definite horizontal layers.

A splendid capture of the thick low clouds overhanding the rock cliff and forming a great color contrast to the water and foreground grass and building. I think your POV selection and composition is well done here. Great work.

Hello Alexander,

Dit zijn van die echte Switserse beelden dat men kan maken vroeg in de morgen.
Wanneer de nevel en de mist tussen de bergen hangt.
U plaats de chalet netjes beneden in de hoek waardoor de foto een totaal ander dementie krijgt.
Kleuren en presentatie are zeer geslaagd. Bedankt.

Steep rock faces around this little lake make it special. Yuo have a good example how a cloudy weather can result a beautiful picture. Edge of cloud layer is very clearly defined.

It's hard visiting beautiful places and not having the best weather but in your case it could have been worse. The light is actually very pretty and the band of cloud gives an original touch.

Amazing location, even without sunshine it looks like a million bucks. Actually, those thick low-lying clouds are perfect at producing a unique, almost eerie John Carpenter type of mood, I really like that. Great framing and management of the available light, TFS!
