Photographer’s Note
I was driving around yesterday looking for something to shoot, and remembered that it was Eagle Days on the old Chain of Rocks Bridge over the Mississippi. I visited the bridge and walked my dog on the river bank and shot some run of the mill photos, but this old gas station stayed in my mind. I had been listening to NPR - Obama's Inauguration Concert "We Are One" was on. On the way back to the highway the radio was playing all those hopeful songs and speeches while I stopped to shoot this photograph. The day was really gloomy, this gas station looked like it had been out of business for a long time, such a contrast to what was going on in Washington DC. Can all that hope overcome all the desolation? Can this collective conscientiousness will our nation, our world, into better days ahead?

Hi Reed,
Somehow I've got this thing about signs, especially when they're old, weather beaten and worn down, so this one struck a chord here. The red frame is quite heavy, but echoes the colour of the sign, so it's OK.
I like the connection you make with the events in Washington. Your president plays a crucial role in the world, and its population want that change even more than most Americans do. Looking at current affairs there's not much to be hopeful about, but to a lot of people in the world the new presidency means a little bit of hope.
Cheers.
Benny
