Magical Time Photo

Photographer’s Note

Another image in my series of the wonderful city of Venice. As I have said on many occasions, the lighting of early mornings creates amazing opportunities for photography. It is at this time that colours are enhanced and compositions seem more "magical".....it's the "Magical time" when the atmosphere is more appealing, and in most cases, more peaceful and without crowds.
This image, again looking towards the island of San Giorgio, reflects a deserted San Marco pier in the foreground, with the old lamp posts providing the light which is reflected off the dew-covered paving.
Shutter speed was 6 secs and apperture at f11.

Hi Grant,

I couldn't agree more about the magic hour in the morning. I also prefer the peace and quiet of mornings to the more crowded evening periods. I like the movement in the gondolas from the long exposure and the star bursts on the lights. Something that might look nice in an image like this would have been a blurred person walking into the frame. Harder to do in the morning hours when nobody is around though.

Very nice evening shot. Too bad part of the lamp on the left is cut off. Overall I'd have zoomed in a bit and moved the lamp on the left a bit further into the picture. The sky is stunning though and the exposure and level of sharpness is perfect.

Ciao Grant,
I believe that a city as Venice, have always a magic atmosphere to have been putting aside for the time of the photo. this with these beautiful lights is unbelievable.

very nice evening shot in Venice Grant,
a very well taken night shot. personal I would take the lantern on the left whole in the shot for the better composition, but of coarse thats a personal thing.
good photo job anyway.

I love this splendid image through the wonderful enlightenment of the buildings in background.
You chose a very nice angle, we see splendid the lanterns.
