Photographer’s Note
Local people and Nepalis make the roads by hand in India.First boiling oil is poured unto the road surface. The workers also melt the tar in a fire, load it into wheel barrows to dump onto the road site. Other men and woman rake it into place. In Laddakh they were rolling it flat with barrels filled with rocks, and a small antique steam roller to flatten the materials. Nepalis will work anywhere in the world to earn a living for their families back in Nepal.
