Photographer’s Note

This shot is interesting for me for two reasons. First, and obvious one is a quite unique place in a far end of the world. This remote beach is located in a very south corner of New Zealand mainland. The pretty rough basin of water you can see there is Southern Ocean and it spreads from there all way down to Antarctic. To be honest it was pretty amazing and strong feeling to stay there and see the waves which came a long way from the South Pole. And second, it shows perfectly strange obsession of Kiwis to different kinds of signs. This one we found in a middle of nowhere, even better, far, far from a middle of nowhere. It was built on a side of remote road, on a shore of a Hell-Know-Where Ocean. I personally think this is just amazing. Just think about it for a minute. The sign which shows directions to some unknown places, on a side of a lost highway is a very age of the land. Pretty romantic, actually. This is way of life, this is New Zealand...
