Photographer’s Note
time to get up, have some coffee, go and see sunrise over East River and Long Island and then go change the world (might need more coffee).
same place as in this and this photo, which also happens to be the Westernmost point of Long Island, as opposed to Easternmost point of the same island.
no colour filter, not much post-production, just minor adjustments in curves and levels. the colours are how I saw them, New York City is famous for its intense winter sunrises.

Hello Kristine, good morning! What a way to wake up and have a nice cup of freshly brewed coffee with a view just like this one. A little click before rushing to work is a great way to start the day, it could acutally CHANGE the world in my eyes if people would take a little time each day, stop for a moment and SEE the world. Not many lights in the high buildings yet in the early morning hour but just some street lights along the shoreline. Wonderful smooth, almost silky surface. Well well I am soon off for the weekend, back to my cow, a little spa in fresh air, heaven for my skin ... well I hope that the winter air does not do the opposite ... LOL. All my best, happy WE ... Barbara.

You may call me crayz but when I look at this image I see modern day Stonehenge. Nice composed shot. You managed to get the best out of the colour conditions. The picture realy gets me the feeling I am there.
Oh... and sorry to know you had to get up so early.

Good to see a new post from you and what a wonderful one it is. I love the gradation of colours in the sky and how it is the red tones from the orange glow that have mixed with the blue of the sky to make purple. Equally the reflected light on the ripples and waves of the river are a joy to behold. The light from the east is just giving some detail to the highrises to stop them being pure silhouette. Worth getting up for.

Hi Kristine,
I do not know how a blind man would react if this was the first view he'd saw... but this sudden revelation of mine...to finally be able to see yours invisible photo is more than I could hope for. It is simply fenomenal! Morning you say? It is just wow...
If there is a reason that I would visit USA, NY is the answer.
I won't bore you with my compliments of excellent technicallities, compositions, etc, I will just say that I'm glad to see you still alive and kickin' :)

Hi, Kristine -
Like Luka, I thought of Stonehenge when I saw the thumbnail. Is that what later archeologists will think of our skyscraper period, and wonder how early man managed to build such tall structures with primitive tools?
Very odd and nice balance here, with the tall buildings on one side and the sunlight on the other. The diagonal of the buildings also parallels the diagonal of the light/dark divide. New York is also famous for late afternoon winter sunlight - that low slant through the canyons of Manhattan! Give you any ideas?
Best,
Dan

Hello Kristine
This one is very impressive infact like other shot of yours, As you mentioning, there are not used of filter and much more PP, I wonder that color are so really come out, excellent exposure and lights. The bright orange looks more attracting, i can also see the shadow of building's.

Hi, Kristine.
When I happen to be around wake-up time is always 5.00 AM, I told you before, it was of course an... offer, and I'm glad to see you kept that in mind & are training in that direction, I greatly appreciate. LOL! Now, you can say what you want, but waking up early more than paid off : SPLENDID shot! Everything else has been said already, so : have a wonderful weekend, I'll see you soon.

Hi Kristine,
Love that sky gradient, looks like you wake-up to a GREAT view, each of the photos is quite different and I'd have a hard time choosing a fav of the three. Sure is a major difference between the eastern and western point of the island!! There's a ban against tripods in NYC???

I didn't know about these intense sunrises in NY, it looks like Florida! The stereotyped winter image of the Big Aple is cold and foggy. Compliments for this engaging composition full of beauty and elegance.

Hello,
Looking to this photo in the gallery (in the small size), I have not first noticed it was an urban shot. I was wondering if it was not better Stonehedge or something close.
I find a little fun to think to NY city and all its buildings as a modern version of Stonehedge. Even more on this photo with the sun color providing the atmosphere.
Yves.

Hey Kristine, Welcome back,
Its lovely to see new posts, well actually this one here does the job, You have manipulated the colour and the light making this shot very interesting.

hello Kristine
I like the color tone of the deeper red and orange just above the horizon at this hour. The brightness level captured was just superb to show the city skyline as silhouette very vaguely yet creating a mood that would not be found in later hour of the day. The sky without clouds making it more attractive.
Good depth at f/16 and it is nice to see the space of water given in this composition.
Merry Xmas and Happy 2009 New Year to you!

Hello Kristine
A beauty! You don’t need to do any PP if you get awesome light like this! I am just imagining the spectacle if those man made monuments were replaced by the amazing natural formations of Arizona….
The diagonal waves are very attractive & in them we see the subdues reflections of the highrises, which looks very attractive. Beautiful work…well done!

I think this was worth getting up for, Kristine! The arch of orange light in the sky matches the arch of the line of buildings, so you picked a great spot. Coffee must have helped with that.
I hope you were equally successful at changing the world. It could sure use it right now.

Greetings, Kristine,
I think dark blue/purple and orange, together in nature, is one of my favorite color combinations. You've selected an excellent composition and then captured the sunrise perfectly. Again I very much appreciate seeing the world as it really is, which you have presented here in flawless execution and superb taste.
I grow tired of the circ polarizers. Seems like everyone uses them these days. While they create a very crisp, surreal, intense look, I can spot a photo shot with one a mile away and they all sort of have a sameness about them to my eye. I much prefer your au naturelle shots and 'lack of treatment' in post. Bravo, again!
Best Regards, Rachel
