On way to Gurudongmar Lake (2)
Gurudongmar Lake or Gurudogmar Lake is one of the highest lakes in the world, located at an altitude of 17,100 ft. It lies in the district of North Sikkim in the state of Sikkim in India. It is the 2nd highest altitude lake in India. One has to travel from Lachen, a small village in north Sikkim to reach there and come back as soon as possible due to unpredictable weather in that region. It takes around 4-5 hours to travel from Lachen to Gurudongmar Lake. En route one has to stop at Thangu, another village at 14000ft for breakfast and checking of permit for that route. After that another one hour drive through the himalayan desert is needed to reach this sacred lake. There is paucity of oxygen at such a height, and thus, staying there for more than an hour is not recommended for most tourists.
