During christmass holidays 2005 I had the opportunity to roam around Patagonia. It was a daunting task given the distances that I wanted to cover in only 19 days. I went from Bariloche accross the lakes into Pto Montt in Chile and then went down to Chiloe Island, Chaiten and the Austral Higway up to Coyayque were I crossed over to CHile Chico to return to Argentina. Down through route 40 to el Chalten and finally to the Glaciers National Park near el Calafate.

Things started off on the wrong foot as my flight from Europe had 5 hours delay thus resulting on my missing my plane to Bariloche and spending one day in Buenos Aires.

Buenos Aires is an amazing city. Very large and very European, it looks like a mixture of Madrid and Paris although one can tell that the city's fortunes have declined since its heyday. Buenos AIres is home to the world's widest streeet: Avenida 9 de Julio with over 16 lanes.

After an exciting day in BS AS I took my flight to Bariloche and spent my day walking around town and going to the National Park of Nahuel Huapi. I did the small loop with crosses through many lakes and provides great view over the Llao Llao hotel, one of the world's finest. I met Vicky, a swiss girl who was doing a round the world trip and hiked together with her until we hitched a ride with Fernando and Laura a newlywed argentinian couple from Bahia Blanca on their honeymoon. With them, we drove around the park and finally ate together in Bariloche.

From Bariloche I did the famous Lake Crossing from Argenitna to Chile. It was very beautiful going through pristine lakes and mountains but quite frustrating from a photographic point of view. Very difficult to find a good POV to give a good perspective. There was jus water, woods and mountains in great spaces, but the resulting photos tended to be on the flat side.
