From Beijing to the Pakistan Border in two months. I arrived in Varanasi at the end of the monsoon season in 2003. After leaving the station, I got into a riksja which brought me to the roundabout in Godaulia, along the banks of the Ganges. From there it was a short walk to my hotel in the Old City.Hotel Alka is a budget hotel located between to bathing ghats on the holy river Ganges. It has a lovely shaded courtyard where you can relax after braving the hustle and bustle of Varanasi’s small and dirty streets.
