La Palma - the greenest of the canarian islands, "la isla bonita", said to be the place of eternal spring. Indeed, it is a beautiful place. Warm water, lots of sunshine and the moist passat winds create a very special climate. La Palma is also a place of extremes: just over 20 km wide, it rises to a height of over 2400 m, so one can find several vegetation zones close together.
And, the island is a paradise for hikers. Lots and lots of paths, well signalled, some narrow steps through laurel forest, some old connection routes (caminos), some new paths on the vast volcanic ridges. (5 photos)

We were lucky to be able to spend another week in the beautiful Alpujarra region in the Sierra Nevada of Andalucia. The colors are especially vivid at this time of the year, when everything is still fresh and clear before the long hot summmer. (5 photos)
