The Velka (Great) Fatra mountain range, in the Central Slovakia, offers plenty of sights in a compact area. The National Park Velka Fatra covers area of over 600 km2. Among the wildest ranges in Slovakia, the chain sports a mixture of evergreen and deciduous forests, flowery sub-alpine meadows and grassy uplands.
A feeling of open, human-friendly space (on the contrary to hard, severe Alpine-type spaces in the High Tatras mountains, with a provoking danger) is breathtaking.
