It was a lazy Sunday morning and by sheer serendipity I happened to stumble upon one of the multitudinous bathing ghaats dotting the river Hooghly.On climbing down the stairs the vista that opened before my eyes in the soft daylight of the dawn simply transported me to the sepia colored world of Renoir’s The River.The most amazing part of this panorama is that like some morning raga it has remained unchanged over the centuries;as if in suspended animation living or reliving it every morning.
