After the success of the Victoria and Albert Waterfront in Cape Town, the "waterfront" concept is becoming increasingly popular here in SA.
An existing waterfront is used (or a new one made where needed! LOL) Shops, restaurants and family entertainment are built around it. Some of them work well, some don't.
