I knew zero about Myanmar.
I am setting a goal to visit this country in the near future before age and health lock me up in one place.
I appreciate your photos and info that become the guidelines or lessons for my study.
Thank you,
Thanh

Vietnamese CONICAL HAT (57 photos) by Ngy Thanh (ngythanh)
(8492)
There are 2 items that you can only see in Vietnam: áo dài and nón lá.
- Áo dài: Vietnamese dress.
- Nón lá: Vietnamese conical hat.
This theme is about nón lá.
Although I am a Vietnamese who spent two years 1975 & 1976 making hats for sale to keep my family's heads above water, I must admit that I didn't know completely the process of making hat, from the first step going to jungle to collect the nón leaves.
Please contribute. Thanks.

Blue Ear Disease (3 photos) by Ngy Thanh (ngythanh)

Vietnam is under attack by "blue ear disease" — a popular name for Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS).
I hope this set of postings would bring some helpful info to local people who are in the fight against the deadly epidemic.

The abnormal class in brothels area (7 photos) by Ngy Thanh (ngythanh)
(8492)
Among the 700,000 Vietnamese living in Preahreacheanachakr Kampuchea, I do not know how many children are attending class now, and how many class for them to learn the maternal language. But I do know a so-called class in the heart of red-light district of Siem Reab City. There is no sign that tells the name, and local people nick-named it “The Love Class”. It is a bivouac class to sit in dry days, and to run when it rains...

A quick return to Chong Kneas (22 photos) by Ngy Thanh (ngythanh)
(8492)
After my visit to Chong Kneas in 03-2005 and posted the theme 'Floating Misery' reflecting the miserable status of Vietnamese people living in this floating village over Tonle Sap Great Lake on TE, some of my co-workers at Alcon Laboratories and other friends at TE contacted me asking if I could receive and relay their donations directly into the hands of these human beings…. as they heard that I am going to return.
This is a brief report on my trip.

I am offering some snapshots I took during my brief return to Thua-Thien/Hue — the poorest province of Vietnam and the richest place in my heart.
Please share with me. Thanks.

The Floating Misery (43 photos) by Ngy Thanh (ngythanh)

The situation of Cambodia's ethnic Vietnamese population provides a graphic example of an important but sometimes forgotten humanitarian issue: the problem of statelessness. One consequence of an international system based on the nation-state is the vital importance to citizenship. (UNHCR statement)
