Bisti Badlands, BLM Wilderness Area, South of Farmnigton, New Mexico.

This BLM wilderness area, together with the adjacent De-Na-Zin wilderness, covers about 55,000 acres of badlands, within which can be found all manner of strange and fascinating forms of erosion. There are no paths, so what you'll find is largely down to chance - and how much time you've got to explore.

These are some photos I took one afternoon / evening in June 2007.

I've always been fascinated by these structures; and whenever I'm travelling the mearest rumour of an arch or bridge can send me on a lengthy detour.

Get the cable car from downtown and ride up the hill to the beautiful botanic gardens and planitarium. No tourist can resist this shot from the top, apparently!
