Conceived as a means of bringing citizens of the EU closer together, the European City of Culture movement was launched in 1985. After 1995, Luxembourg is again this year's City of Culture, in collaboration with the Greater Region and Sibiu (RO). Next European Capital of Culture will be Stavanger (Norway).

Although many photographers think "postcard"-shots are not worth being posted, I believe it is interesting to share with you even such "trivial" shots ;-) My aim is just to have fun by sharing pictures and to show you that Luxembourg is not only about banks and business, but is well worth to consider some days of visit as a tourist. I will also add other places of interest to vistors, like Art-galleries, Museums ...

Past, present and future of Luxembourg steel industry and sites.
Discovery of the iron ore around 1850 marked the economic take-off for Luxembourg's quite poor agricultural economy. From 1870's onward it industrialized very fast. Untill the 1870s people emigranted to the US, Brazil. In the 20th century the country quickly develope and drew thousands of foreign workers into the southern "Minette" region. Today many of the old industrial sites are abandoned or reconverted.
