Through the years I took many photo's of stencil art in Riga. I'm used to the strange look of the local people . . . I even don't bother anymore.

I post them on TE for another reason. Learning about the world is not simply absorbing facts . . . but it is also letting yourself change by the things you look at.

so if you look at these posts I hope you reflect & react; about the ideas that makes us human in this world.

Learning about the world is also remembering the history. When I saw Alexanders photo about Manhatten, I realised that this serious part of TE had no Theme.
I hope the photos here will reflect respect and hope.

Riga is a city full of Jugenstil architecture, and many of the building where decorated with statues and faces.

In daily life it is a symbol of wealth, but sometimes . . . .

There is another theme on rooftops, but I noticed, people had made some beautiful close ups of the rooftops, and I wanted to give these a place of there own.

I like the peacefulness of the textures and colours.

During the period of the soviet union, there was a typical kind of architecture.
In this series I hope we can capture the mood of this

Architecture in Riga is one of it’s charmes!

The mixure of Jugendstil architecture and wooden houses is great. The centre is protected and on the world heritage list. Riga exploded out of it's historical borders during 1880-1914. Much of what is visable now, was build then. After WWII houses were still build in a german style (Stalin period), then big housing projects were started (Krosov period), resulting in the end in the concrete complexes we all know as typical soviet architecture.

What makes Latvia special to me is the Nature.
