Thank you for your observations and positive comments. I hope you will come to Alaska someday. It really is a wonderful place.

I loved Northern Exposure too, and watch reruns whenever I see them, although some things kept me from appreciating it for a long time: their lack of fact checking so they could avoid saying ridiculous things like, "We drove down to Kotzebue," etc. Also, as much as I loved Marilyn and Ed, it took me awhile to get over the series not using Alaska Natives in the roles of Alaska Natives. Those are entirely different cultures! However, the premise of the series was hilarious, Joel was just wonderful in his chaotic response to the isolation of Alaska as compared with NY, and the characters were wonderfully endearing, as I find most Alaskans. It does seem that isolation does cause us to make more effort to be good and caring neighbors to each other. They really got that right.
