| Maybe you are right about the low contrast, but the original was much worse, because, as you guessed, most probably it was raining in the top, or at least it was quite foggy. I notice often that I am quite shy with contrast and saturation when the original is too pale, as I fear that the result looks too unnatural. To make things "worse", the original was quite UE to avoid a washed out sky, so I had to "push" much the lower part. I also used a duplicate layer blended in overlay mode to "cut through" the fog.
