Marc, Thanks for weighing in on the framing! I wasn't sure about it myself. I guess I was trying something to see if it worked--a very formally composed arrangement of a wild natural scene. You're probably right about the rule of 1/3s being a better choice; I never thought of the "anchor" as drawing attention down that way before. I also have a horizontal compo that doesn't include those logs, and friends I ask to judge the two photos are always split between them; maybe I'll post that one to workshop to see if it works better.
