Hello Yves,

I have visited only Boavista and Sal. Sal you are somehow forced to go to, because there is the internationa airport. It is worth no more than a 3 days visit, in my opinion. It is rather touristic, expecially in the main village.

Boavista is very sandy. A piece of desert in the sea. There are great desert white sand beach all around. Of course it is the ocean, and don't expect a calm warm sea like at the Caribbean ! But they are very wild and beautiful, and also the villages are (not yet) touched by tourism, and people are very genouine. I had spent 10 days in Boavista and 3 in Sal. I took my time in Boavista, enjoying and relaxing on the beaches.

I know that each isle is different from the others. Boavista is just desert, other are a sort of rain forest or more tropical, some of them are very peculiar for traditions.
I was also interested to vist Fogo, which is essentially only a high active volcano, and black sand beaches. You can hike on the volcano and around it.

I think the organization of your trip depends on local connections between the islands, and how much time you have.
In my experience it was mandatory to rent a 4-wheel drive car. And still you have to pay attention to sand. But I am sure that you already know about driving in the sand !!!

ciao Stefano
