Hi Murray, I think you would like this place. This is Newcastle, (second oldest city in Australia and an old coal town) about an hour and a half north of here. Besides the beach they have a wetlands with a bird sanctuary (we got rained out so I saw it but didn't get any shots), and across the water (a short drive further) is Stockton with it's 30 kilometers of sand dunes, and Nelson Bay.
