1.For the enemies. Well right now it seems like the big Russian bear in east sleeps a little. But as the coast along our country still is of strategic importance it’s sure wise to be present. And even if the Great War is 60 years back in time, well 5 years of occupation is not forgotten completely. For the mines: It is not more than a few years ago when they found mines in the sea from the war… 2.For the ice: We have presently some “icesoup” in the inner harbour. I think it can be seen on the picture of the Royal Yacht. I think the harbour in Stockholm normally have more ice than we have along our coast. What “save” us is the Golf Stream bringing warmer water over the Atlantic from the pleasant waters of the Golf of Mexico. This stream is very crucial to have an open sea along the coast, also in the winter. In Oslo the harbour will freeze if we have wind from the south in combination with a cold periode.
