Hi Iris: Thanks a lot for your critique and your nice words, and welcome to Trekearth. Even though I really like the fact that you are naming this technique after me, I am quite new at it and yes it has a name, its called bokeh, and that is when one object in a photo is sharp and the rest is blurry. In order to obtain this you can either: shoot with a zoomed lens, or shoot a subject with wide F-stop such us 2.8 or 3.5 which will give you smaller depth of field.
