Thanks for your comments on my photo. To answer your question about whether I used a tripod, the answer is no. In fact I did have my tripod with me, but I found an enclosed fire hydrant which I used to brace myself. The shutter speed was not so slow, and I usually feel confident at anything up to around 1/2 second if I'm braced. Also, my hands were just too cold to open up the tripod!
