Thank you for your nice comments. The rainbow does indeed look like it is casting light on the hillside, but this is the effect we see with rainbows, the light "inside" the bow being darker than the light "outside" the bow. With this "partial arc" rainbow, the effect is more dramatic because it appears to be a beam of light. I wish I could get shots like these all the time!
