Hello Luko: YOu are right makassar is not a very pleasant city!!! The difficult thing about travelling in indonesia is the fact that they are islands and therefore you need to take either a plane or a bus, thats why we had to change our plans constantly. Impossible to plan ahead for the pelni boats as the schedule in their website is for 2005 and nobody seems to know when it leaves. We found ourselves in Makassar with aparantely no means to leave the city as all flights out of the city seemed booked, we were lucky to find an opening on a flight to SUrabaya, and boy did we like SUrabaya better than Makassar.
