Dear George, I did not open my computer at all this evening. But before going to bed, I decided to have a look a TE. At 21:59 you left this meaningful, powerful, critique. And the workshop (will come back on it...). It was exactly 22:00 when I saw it. It is now 22:51 and I am still in front of it, looking at it. Seeing the word "workshop" at the right of Polonaise, I knew already that it would be something that will provoque some waves inside of me. I know your workshops on other photos. And I know quite often what is my reaction. I was excited and I was almost expecting major transformations. And to be honest, I was expecting a black & white photography, which would be my own choice now, if I was able to make a decent B&W. So, I opened it. And I saw... First, I saw the B&W and told myself "Yes!!!" And then, I saw what was the most obvious, the croping. A perfect croping. But though these two things were "big" in a way, for me, that was not a major transformation. And then, I begin to look more carefully. A light here has disappeared. And there, an horrible white and blue neon. Tiny little spots here and there... Then, I realized... What had been there from the start was still there, but it was now powerful. Now, it takes all the place. The rest don't distract anymore. There is no more "noise" to distract from the real, pure music... When people talk about "noise" in a photo, they just don't look at the right thing. "Noise" is not the grain. "Noise" is what is distracting from the music being played in the photo... It gives me hope George. It gives me hope that I can take a few decent photos once in a while. I will have to take my time and care for those little babes... Nothing great come from rushing it... Sometimes (most of the time maybe...), we do workshop and the person receiving it thank you so much for your time and blah blah blah... This time you will know that somebody appreciate it and that it is helpful in more ways than you may have thought... A very important lesson of Photography has been given to me tonight.
