| Liora. When the rains come in northern California it falsl heaviest around the mountain. It appears the mountain itself pierces the clouds to release rain. Redwood trees grow on the east side of the mountain where there is ample rain in winter and streams that flow down the mountain until well into the summer. When you move north and west from the mountain, including the Nicasio Valley, there is less rainfall and hills tend to have less foliage on them. In addition, you can't see from the distance, but much of what you are seeing as green on the mountain is from trees and shrubs that thrive on very little water. The live oak tree has small leaves because it conserves water taken from the roots, not permitting much evaporation through the leaves. I hope that helps a bit... I enjoy your critiques Liora since it always seems to me that you react personally to the image, allowing what it evokes in you to be spoken, including questions that arise. It makes having a conversation with you so pleasurable. Thanks for sharing your comments. |
