i have to agree with you - there seems to be no solution whilst people on EITHER side denies the right of the other to peacefully exist with self-determination - whether history - the Arabs were literally driven into the sea and the deserts at the forming of Israel and still have anger related to this - the Israelis still believe they face the threat of this from some sections - or ideaology and religion - the determination to persevere and win for God and right (on both sides) or shorter term political goals - emphasising leadership and holding power - there are some difficult problems to overcome. Practical problems, problems of sharing, problems of justice and problems of dealing with people who sometimes have much more power than they deserve. Will the Israelis allow the return of millions of displaced Palestinians? It is such a stange historical conundrum........the British government of the time really needed their heads examining ......there must have been a better solution but post-war and given what happened to the Jewish people it is not hard to see why there was little stomach for carrying on the conflict of that time. It is very touching to see the reverance with which ordinary Palestinian Moslems, Palestinian Christians and Internationals visit and respect the shrines of Bethlehem - one has a sense of the true peace which lies at the heart of religion as opposed to the abominations in its name. It is much harder for the ordinary Jewish Israeli to visit here and those I spoke to were scared - where is the opportunity for people to meet and see each other as human beings first?
