| Hi Patricio. Thanks for your critique. Sorry for the delay in answering your question about how you get to North Korea - I've been traveling a lot the past few weeks. Anyhow, to answer your question about traveling to North Korea, there are currently only two ways to do that. Firstly to go there on Government business (as I did) or secondly to go there on a group tour. There is no independent travel to North Korea. If you go on Government business they will insist on taking you to see the ‘sights’ of Pyongyang, which will be much the same itinerary as you will get on an organised tour, except that I am not sure that the group tours would include the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren's Palace or the Kumsusan Memorial Palace. If you do an Internet search for North Korea tours, you will see that there are a number of travel agencies in Beijing offering tours at different times of the year. Beijing is currently the only place from which you can fly into Pyongyang (apart from some cities in Siberia). However, these tours only operate when the North Korean government decides to issue tourist visas. They allowed quite a few group tours in last year around the time of the Arirang festival, but then they stopped issuing visas after that. I am not sure whether they have started again – the travel agents may have some idea. Cheers . . . David |
