| Hi Chad, thanks for the comments. IR shots are quite easy if you have the patience. The D70 is quite good for IR work too. First you'll need an IR filter, personally I use either B+W 093 and Hoya R72. They aren't cheap but they work well with the D70. For this shot I used the B+W 093 filter. Because the filter cuts out so much light you'll always need a tripod and prefocus the lens(manual mode) before mounting the filter. Also IR shots work best on a bright sunny day. After you focus and mount the filter you can test exposure. I always shoot in "Manual" mode either at F/8 or F/11. The exposures can be anywhere from 1 sec to 8 secs or more depending on F-stop. Also, always shoot in RAW so you can adjust the colour tones to your liking during post processing(original shots will all have a magenta cast). When I open the file in photoshop first thing I do is "auto-levels" and play around with curves and then convert to B&W. For this shot I added a blue tint using "Photo Filter" as a last step. Hope that helped getting you on the right track. If you need more help feel free to email me @bho@bhophoto.com Cheers |
