and I appreciate your work in each one of them. I like the great care you use cropping each iteration, which as you observe have their own benefits and deficits. Wouldn't it be nice if we could offer multiple versions of each image, describing our thought process, as you did in your email message. Thanks for taking so much time and effort in this playing we're about.

NOW, I posted an image for you late last evening that you've not commented upon. It is for your "self-portrait" theme. The title of the image is "Bus Stop." There is no need to comment but at least I'd like you to see it.

With regard to the lens, it has a wonderful range for walking around. The downside is the widest aperture isn't constant as it is in the Tamron lens I use most often, so it isn't quite as useful for portraits or where you want limited depth of field. The Tamron covers 28-75 mm. I want a bit more length without having to mount the 70-200 f/4L which is white and attracts attention whenever I have it on. If I'm shooting on the street, I'd like to be a little less conspicuous. In fact, and don't tell Gal, I'm thinking of picking up a Canon G3 to use on street. It has a LCD screen on the back that rotates, so you can be really tricky, looking in one direction while shooting in another. I used a friend's Nikon 5700 that has that feature and it is quite nice for street photography. On the other hand, I might just buy a prime lens like the Canon 100 f/2. I've certainly come to appreciate the benefit of having a fast lens. The Canon 20D gives outstanding results at high ISO settings, but it is still nice to have lenses that work well in low light situations. Luko uses a Canon 85 f/1.8 on his 20D to great effect.

Have a wonderful weekend Dominique. It is the beginning of our great patriotic celebration, the Fourth of July. I may look for a parade to take some photos. On the Fourth I'll attend a barbecue with friends, which is about an American as you can get. Of course, living in Marin County, one of the more liberal bastions in this country, there aren't a great number of flag waving patriots who will likely be in attendance... ;-)
