am I missing something or the thread "How about a 7-days strike for Polonaise" has vanished from the forum?... evidence of something, or what?... |

Hi Jerzy
It is quite common that a mod can DELETE or BLOCK a thread at Internet.
BUT a mod can not suppress any opinion, individual 'time out' - or whatever a member may feel for.
Of course DELETING or BLOCKING a member is also a way to to do a little site CLEANSING, especially if your foremost wish is to make a Disneyland lookalike - but IMO not very wise.
...ehh.. just a general regard to how to organize forums at Internet. Nothing to do with TE of course.
Ref this article (also mentioned in another thread):
"When to step in and moderate your forum?
OK so that discussion has gone way out of hand so it's better to delete it and make it go away, right?
Nope, sorry no such luck.
As mentioned in the article, Dealing with Forum Spammers people visit your forums because they want to, not because they have to. And as such, the second you start imposing rules and in particular, censorship, people will not be happy!
So it's important to maintain a viable community that you and your moderators show a degree of subtlety when moderating posts. Generally, if a discussion requires noticeable moderation, then chances are that it's pretty heated. People comment because they want to have their say and if you take that away from them....well....it won't be pleasant!
When to lock a thread
When it degenerates into mud slinging
When the same arguments are made over and over
When people are getting offended
When the subject is completely off topic from the original subject
When all new posts are nonsense (applicable to threads that were initially informative)
It is advisable that when you lock a topic, you make the final post in the thread giving your reasons for doing so. It's really not a good idea to simply lock a thread with no reason given - it will leave the participants feeling uncertain about their own actions, even if they haven't done anything wrong.
In the same respect, if you or your moderators make changes to a post (ie you remove a brand name or URL), then you should add a comment to the end of it saying why.
Basically, whenever moderating a forum you have to be able to justify you actions in the interests of the entire community - it may still leave people angry or annoyed, but it will avoid major drama and flames! But keep in mind, it is still your baby, so feel free to lay down the law as you please - just remember if you are too tyrannical your peasants will rebel!"

Check the thread "3 days to christmas" nina.
I started this strike and I end it at Dec. 25th with probably interesting news also of how TE and Internet Brands operate and harvest money from the work we do...
So keep the spirit high, dont be a a CGT pussycat ... ;-) |

We have experienced data corruption on the suspended accounts of Scott Hale and Polonaise causing the photos of their accounts to be inaccessible. The tech. department is working to try to recover the data. Administrator have contacted Scott and George personally and let them know that this is in NO way punitive. This is a tech problem and nothing more. Please be patients.

Data corruption?
No backup???????????
Isn't that frightening???
It's like if Santa Claus came during the night, left a box with the wrapping, the ribbon, the bow.
All happy, you open the gift.
It's empty. |

To MiguelP,
I don't know if Polonaise removed his own photos or not, but I do know that the other ex-banned one has deleted his own shots a few weeks ago (that was written in his intro), so the adm. or site-owners did NOT remove them... |

| Re: after the 7 days : what now? explanations badly needed! | noborders
(14199) | :: | 2008-12-24 16:44 |
This is of course a time to celebrate but there is still this mystery / problem that is in suspense, something that stays on my mind with a bad after taste...
What now ? It's almost 1:45am here, Christmas night : of course, there are other things on our minds but seeing that George's photos are still not there contrary to previous announcement, I think that we have the right to know what's going on !
What happened, is there still some hope that Polonaise's 500+ (525 or 540 ? don't remember exactly !) photos plus all his WSs will reappear for Christmas day, - or some time later ???
If not, an explanation + apologies would be appropriate, not only and first to the author of the whole work but also to all of us who care and miss it, it would be a loss for TE too - it all happened without any warning ; for the future and for our information, it would be good to know if it is a technical mistake (fatal error or temporary problem ?), or the deed of a rogue element among the censors who deleted the whole lot and fears to announce it, the announcement always postponed and not yet pronounced ?...
Some more transparency on this site is badly needed ! Enough with these opaque methods and arcane ways to proceed ! Please, more communication with between the admin. / mods. and the members !
I therefore continue to PROTEST !
... But OK, I'll stop "whining"...
MERRY CHRISTMAS nonetheless and I won't be much here till the 26th... Family comes first, of course.
