Hi Don, in this workshop I wanted to increase the light in the shadows of the trees and in the lighter portion of the snow only. I didn't want to touch the colour. With curves then I placed a couple of anchors to protect the mid-range of tones (the sky and the shadows in the snow). I then increased the lighter portion of the snow and the shadows in the trees. I played only with RGB. For the re-post I sharpened slightly with smart sharpen (45,.5). I hope you approve of the changes.

I have removed the copy from my terminal.

I'm experimenting with different b/w techniques. This original one was simply a desaturate technique which I learned from Scot Kelby's book "The Photoshop CS Book for Digital Photographers." Although there are many great tips in this book, I like the new technique listed at www.gormanphotography.com.

I made a crop of most of dark areas, placing the small boat and the setting Sun at the inferior 1/3. Finished, making a border (PS7).

In Photoshop CS, I adjusted the levels slightly to bring in some more detail in the shadows, increased the contrast slightly to make it a bit more "punchy" and increased the saturation to bring out the beautiful colors a bit more.

Hello Donald,

What I've tried to do here, is to extend the picture on both sides, this is ONLY to show what I think would be a better frame. What I did is relatively simple, I first started with a canvas on the two lateral sides, then developed the empty places by carrying layers of the picture. I could have worked here for 3 hours if necessary for a better job but it was not my purpose to create a new usable picture, just to show a wider view. So please do not search for small defects, and I hope you won't be mad at me.

I did nothing special but opened Donald's original in PS, applied 'adjust contrast' and some USM afterwards.
Oh, yes, and some burning on white areas on birds' heads.

Hi Don, I've selected the shadows in the shot, and brightened them a bit to enhance detail. Followed by adjusting levels to the rest of the shot to try and enhance the contrast. Followed by unsharp mask.
