I accented the white waves a bit with the curves tool and then added a tiny bit of contrast back.

Purpose of this Workshop: Bring out shadow detail, attempt to correct some distortion, and improve overall exposure uniformity.

First step: Contrast Masking to bring out shadow detail and increase exposure uniformity. NewLayerViaCopy. Desaturate. Invert. Blur/Gaussian 19px. Used a soft edged eraser to reduce the effect slightly (mainly on the flowers and the building) Merge mode Overlay 100%.

To correct the perspective distortion I selected the whole image and used Transform/Skew to pull the top left corner further left and the top right corner up a little. Selected the lighthouse using Rectangular Marquee, Transform/Skew to pull the top right corner up.

Finally selected everything except the sky with a feathered Lasso. Converted to LABcolor and selected the brightness channel, then Sharpened at 75% to bring out a little more detail.

I liked the composition and colors a lot but thought that it could be given a little more "bang" to it so applied a contrast mask to brighten the dark sections.

Applied a contrast mask
- gaussian blur radius 13.

And brightened a bit
- levels center input value 1.1

As said in my "critique", I think that by cropping halfway between the bird and the top of the shot the bird is not a lost bird in the sky and it becomes part of the scene.

here is what I did..disarture,dodged the lighthouse (too make it a bit more bright),added a layer,blacked it with curves,used history brush on the sky.sharped the front and darkened the edges.. tell me what u think.

Contrast masking to bring up the details in the shadow and cropped a bit on top and bottom. Also add a bit of saturation and contrast.

The 2 'eyes' in the original takes too much attention to me. Without those eyes it all becomes very abstract. I almost see a person with long hair or a piece of cloth on the head.
What do you think John?

John, here is the picture after I ran it through Photoshop. It could be worked further, but I felt this was as far as I wanted to work it to show you the fun of posprocessing pictures.
