Among other things I played with the shadow/highlights...

I increased the shadows alot, to bring the foreground back to life ;-P and also increased the highlights - just 2% - to try to simulate the polarizing filter effect on the clouds...

Hope you like it!

First I did some cleaning, clone stamping over the scratches... Afterwards I did some dodge&burn, darkening some of the clouds and lightening the mailboxes' poles...

A small white frame was added

As I said in my comment, I would have used a different framing for this photo, and that is what I tried to exemplify with this WS.

First I addressed other issue I wasn't very confortable with: The pale sky and mountain. I added a second layer and filled it with 50% grey. I sellected "soft light" as the blend mode. I then, selected this grey layer (which by now shouldn´t be visible) and then selected the brush tool. I then added low oppacity blacks and whites: blacks in the sky and mountais to make them darker and whites on the sand and jeep to make them whiter, and simulate the burning heat.

After "straightening" the photo I cropped it: a bit in the left, and a lot to the right - in my oppinion the second mountain wasn't adding a lot to the photo (one mountain is enough ;-P).

The finishing touch was a white frame with 10% of the smallest width.

Hope you like it

As promissed before, here's my view on this photo. I chose to desaturate it because the colours where already not the main thing on the picture.

First I cropped the image to exclude the shadow in the bottom and some space to the left and up. Afterwards I changed the color space to lab color and applied a 70% unsharp mask to the lightness channel. I then changed the colour space back to RGB and used the desaturate option. Minor changes where the applied: highlights (+7%); brightness (-5%) and contrast (+20%).

To finish it I increased the canvas size by 10% of the smaller length to create the white frame and resized the picture to 600 px in the larger length so that it fits in a regular screen.

All these where done using Photoshop.

With this different crop I tried to use the whole shadow...

Do you think I should crop a little in the left?

Following the sugestion of propofol I cropped the bottom of the image to dispose of the "out-of-focus" vegetation.

I might add that it seems to have turned out really nice...

Thanks to propofol

I used photoshop to:

. Reduce slightly the brightness
. Increase slightly the contrast
. Teak the "shadows" and "highlights"
. Adjust the "levels" cutting on the darks
. Remove the frame

The image quality is a bit worse due to the fact that I worked over the image you posted, which is already relatively low on resolution due to the limits of size... still, I hope you liked it.
