I just wanted to try how the photograph would have looked without the diagonal in the front.
This workshop is not because there is something wrong with the quality of the main posting! That is spot-on.

When doing a transformation, the 800 pixel posting is actually not enough information to get a lossless transformation. Best do transformations (distort / warp / perspective) on the originally sized 3600pix shot. At that point, little loss in quality is visible.

I worked with a transformation distortion to straighten out the lower shoreline of the river. After that, I straightened it a bit more with transformation warping.
Last I added some sharpening (smart sharpen 18% - 5 pix radius), contrast, and some blue and red saturation. But those things were just added to work on the quality loss when transforming an 800pix photograph.

Hi Michael. I did a WS for the hell of it - just to see whether it makes a differece. I used CS3 and cropped the photo then applied a slight curve to enhance the contrast slight. Lastly, I applied "smart sharpen".

I thought I'd prefer it quite a lot but I'm not sure there's so much to choose.

First I cropped the sky and clouds out of the scene as they played no significance to the beautiful lighting. Secondly, I went through and added yellows, magenta, cyan, and took out a slight bit of red, increased greens, and raised saturation by 5 points to bring more detail into the image.
The framing is a nice touch to this image, it was in the way of the workshop only, sorry...

Selection and erase:
The rock in foreground as it was distracting my attention from the calm water in the pond.

Selection and Tune:
Selected the burnt -out high illumination area and adjusted the tuning parameters:
1. Brightness to - - -26
2. Contrast to - - +8
3. Colour balance shifted to Green +32

Thank god the colour data was there and it returned to Green.

It's now a calm and quiet pond bathing in the soft sunlight with the "Shaluk" (Local name in Bengali) leaves surfacing green with a golden tinge.

I croped the area around the Joshua tree, I would like to see only the green branches against the sky but image is small to do that. I hope you like this version

1) select the two intermediat land masses and the water with the magic wand tool
2) used levels to darken them to remove the haze effect
3) selected the far land
4) used levels to darken it
5) deselected everything
6) ran Neat Image to reduce noise, but mainly to sharpen
7) selected the bright green foreground trees
8) used levels to brighten them

I thought that a little tighter crop would be interesting and I adjusted the levels slightly, added a bit of color...although it made the falls kind of yellow. If I had more time I would have masked them out of the color change. I also sharpened the image. I probably would have made the crop a little wider, but there was an annoying pine tree that would need to be dealt with... ;)

Nice picture...New England screams for a large format camera...
