I blurred the background of the image to highlight the locomotive. Then I've applied shadows/highlights, levels, curves, colour balance, noise reduction and, to end the work, I've resharpened the image.

I had a difficult decision between these versions. This one has better light, but I preferred the all sky version showing upper side of the wings.

Like Kath suggests, I just "put a black 'eye-line' round the outside", "to make it stand out against the horrrible new TE background".
When I remember I do the same on my posts.

I used a neutral density filter to bring up the background mountains.

I thought some contrast was necessary to bring this photograph to life. I increased contrast by 30% on the whole photograph. Then I worked a little more on the sky, adding more contrast and making it less bright, so as to make clouds -and only clouds :) - whiter. Hope you like it. Ioanna

On your beautiful photo, I have:

1. Increased Contrast
2. Used an ND filter to darken the sky and sea

- levels (draged back the RH slider)
- colour balance (reduced red)
- dodge and burn layer to darken branch
- burn the edges to highlight bird (using blured selection and multiply colour fill layer)
-smart sharpen layer (masked water so as not to increase noise)
