| Intro: | My name's Dave and I'm originally from South Yorkshire. I live in London, where I work in adult education, and I escape both at the weekends by hiking around the surprisingly unspoilt countryside that surrounds the city. The Chiltern Hills are my favourite area, but I sometimes head for the South Downs or the Surrey Hills, and further afield when I get the chance, usually to northern Scotland, the West Country, Yorkshire, Wales or Slovenia. I've always enjoyed travelling and learning about other places, and I first came across TrekEarth while researching a trip to Slovenia. I also enjoy helping other people find places that will inspire them, and at the college where I work I sometimes take groups of students out on hikes; seeing the Buckinghamshire countryside through the eyes of people from Brazil or China or Poland makes you realise how interesting and exotic it really is. So I joined TrekEarth mainly to share ideas about places, but I've found I'm learning about photography as well. I'm not a technical photographer, but I try to capture the mood of places I like, usually by taking huge numbers of photos and choosing the best! Any hints on how to economise by taking better shots are more than welcome. By the way, I've just (Aug 07) had a brilliant holiday in the Faroe Islands and thoroughly recommend it if you like uncommercialised places. The light is wonderful, constantly changing but amazingly clear. And the notoriously changeable weather was very kind to me; it only rained once in the whole week I was there. | |
