| Intro: | Thank you for visiting my gallery and leaving your critiques. All feedback is an inspiration for improvement and a chance to find new people and places. You may write your critiques in English, French, Spanish or Portuguese. Other languages are welcome, but I probably won't understand the whole message. Photography My rapport with photography started with my becoming conscious about the impact of light upon the way an object appears to oneself, about the allusive power a frozen glimpse can have, and about the mysterious beauty of graphic synthesis. That is, photography can be compelling in the symbolization of trivial things through new perspectives and of important things through a thoughtful imprinting of selected features on our memory. Of course, although a powerful instrument, photography can only go so far, and in many cases, the beauty is revealed, or fully elicited, only when detailed context is given, revealing the many layers of meaning a picture can have. The image needs to have intrinsic value, harmony, though. The elaborated construction process is a possibility the outdoor photographer hardly ever gets, lets be honest. Most of the time, it's all about improving our technique, accumulating experience about what works or not and being at the right spot at the right time. Hence, it takes humility and sincerity to evaluate other people's pictures not only because of different tastes, but because we don't fully know the conditions under which one photo was taken and the ideas the photographer had in mind (i.e., a descriptive picture and an artistic one have to be examined by the means of different criteria or weighted by diverse values; the consideration of the available resources and time is also important depending on the kind of technical demands of the chosen subject). To sum, the eye is the soul of photography, and it's the first part of photography technique that needs to be developed, in my opinion. For that, TE is a prime tool. Equipment However, it takes machinery to do the rest. I began with a Nikon N4004 in 2000 and moved to digital in 2003 with a Sony F717. I got more serious about photography technique since 2007, impelled by the possibilities of my first DSLR, a Canon EOS Rebel XTi (400D), coupled with some Sigma lenses (10-20, 24-70 f2.8, 70-300), a Manfrotto tripod, a set of polarizers, and a Canon 430EX flash. Recently, I've acquired a Lee ND grad set (0.6 soft, 0.9 hard) and a Cokin Z ND8. As of April 2008, I made an unsuspected upgrade, even to myself, into the realm of serious equip: a Canon 40D camera body and a decent Canon 70-200 f 2.8 IS. This lens is so good it makes me want to throw the Sigmas away... Genres Within TE’s boundaries, I indistinctly appreciate good photos of landscape, classic or fantastic, natural or urban, and also photos of people, cultural events, etc. Of course, if you take a look at my favorites, Favorites - Decisive Moment, Favorites - Portraits/People, Favorites - Landscapes 01, Favorites - Landscapes 02, Favorites - Landscapes 03, Favorites - Landscapes 04, Favorites - Urban, Favorites - Macro, and my gallery, you will have a better idea. Please leave your sincere remarks and notify me of any mistake. Thanks. Themes: BRASÍLIA, BRAZIL FRANCE 2007 ESPÍRITO SANTO, BRAZIL FLORIANÓPOLIS, 2000 | |
