Manuel,
Just a short unsharp mask script in photoshop to increase sharpness and contrast:
1) amount 30% radius 40 pixels (which essentially increases contrast)
2) amount 150% radius 0.3 pixels (to increase sharpness).
There are lots of variations on this. Hope it's useful.

Hi Zandra,
I think your original capture is possibly a little underexposed as the right side of the levels curve falls short of the end of the scale.
So I used Photoshop to do the following:

1) Adjusted overall levels curve by shifting the right slider.
2) Selected foreground with polygonal lasso tool and 20 pixel feather, then increased brightness slightly.
3) Adjusted colour balance in highlights from cyan towards red.
4) Cropped a bit of empty sky at the top as it felt slightly top-heavy, thus placing the horizon about 2/3 up.

Just my suggestions and hope you don't mind :o)

Following a suggestion by Phil Dyer (dyerco), I converted to BW and used the inverse function.

Shifted midtone and shadows colour balance slightly towards yellow.
Selected the lower half of the picture (rectangular marquee tool, 50 px feather). Used Levels to increase contrast and Hue/Saturation to boost yellow and red saturation.
Decreased saturation slightly in sky.

This is a standard technique used for eliminating contrails and here it seemed like a possible approach. There may well be others that work more effectively.

Select a trapzium just above limit of flare (yellow part) using Polygonal Lasso tool.
Apply 2 px feather.
Copy and paste.
Move to position and adjust levels.
Repeat as required (I did it 4 or 5 times), adjusting the levels (colour balance would also be good) of each layer to achieve a uniform effect.
Merge layers.

This is actually quite difficult as there's a colour gradient (red to yellow) as well as a luminosity gradient and it's not quite right. Still, with skill and patience I'm sure a good job could be done.
I still prefer the original in spite of the flare!

Michèle,
I wasn't actually intending to post this but I see that my idea is relatively innocuous compared to Aga who has gone so far as to kill the swan off completely!
All I've done is invert the direction of movement of the swan which I think makes for a stronger composition. To do this, I made another copy of the image, reversed it, selected an area around the "new" swan using the lasso tool, selected a 20 pixel feather, copied, pasted in the original image, then merged all visible layers.
I tried various combinations of clone, burn and dodge tools to make the blur more even but my attempts weren't terribly successful. However I'm sure that someone with greater Photoshop skills could have done a much better job.
Hope you don't mind!

In Photoshop I rotated 2° clockwise and cropped the left hand side to make the bridge more symmetrical (not perfect though!).

This is my cropped version without the foreground. Just my opinion, but I think this helps focus attention on the fog and mountains in the distance.
