I think that this is a wonderful photo, so here is what I did to it.
1)I cropped and straightened the picture so the lines on the stairs were straight.

2)I ran a noise removal program like noiseware pro to get rid of any artifacts.

3)I Then bumped up the saturation to deepen the colors.

4) Lastly I sharpened it using two techniques recommended by Scott Kelby (author and one of the photoshop guys) First I ran USM set at amount 85% radious 1.0 and threshold 4.
Then I changed the mode to lab and then clicked on lightness and ran usm twice. Then switched it bacl to rgb.

this isn't the greatest workshop as I had to increase the size in order to repost. But you can see where I was going with this. I cropped out most of the dead space, I sharpened and removed the noise using noiseware pro and USM. I also deepened the colors using a combination of levels and saturation.

I don't know that anything really needed to be done, but as the most interesting parts to me were the personalities and the lighting, I just focused in on those parts of the photo. Hope you like it. ;) -ellen

My goals were to (1) bring out some of the details, and (2) focus more on the two large geysers and the people. First, I auto-adjusted brightness, contrast, color and sharpness. Then I ran a contrast mask. Then I ran Dust and Scratches and Despeckle filters. Then I cropped, sharpened and added a frame. I hope you like it.
