Hi Christian,
See what I mean?
In Photoshop I created a new blank layer,filled it with 50% gray on overlay mode and I draw a vertical gradient from black to transparent to darken the sky.
In the white clouds area there is no useful information left;absolute white...
This is why you need a ND grad filter.

Hi Christian,
Using Photoshop CS3 only,without any other third-party plugins I did some curving (the photo was too blue), I boosted up the colors and the contrast of the sky and I removed the stuff in the foreground.
