Je trouvais que la maison à gauche était en trop, elle rompait la symétrie du pont et diminuait l'impact de la zone noir inconnu vers laquelle se dirige la route.
Techniquement : j'ai utilisé l'outil clone pour cloner la zone noire sur la zone où la maison était présente.

Qu'en pensez vous ?

Using the Gimp,
I selected the levels tool, and moved the input cursor that was on white (255) to 185. The result is a picture with more light and more contrast.

It was quiet hard to find a satisfactory cropping. After several unsuccessful trials, I came to this one. It sets the emphasis on the heart and on the flamingoes.

Using the Gimp :
Simple crop of the top and bottom part to benefit better from the horizontal line of the beach. (afterwards I would have corrected the horizontality of the beach (about 1°)).

Rotation of 4.1°
Saturation of green tones
Increase the light + 33
Increase the contrast +13
Then played with the levels, mainly more light on the midtones.

Using the Gimp
I selected the sky using the magic tool (very easy because the sky is uniform).
I inverted the selection (now the statue and the church are selected).
I increased the constrast and the light.

Using the GIMP (it is a freeware that you can find on the web, like other types of software, it takes some time to understand and be able to use it effectively. That's why I would suggest the following book (found online) : grokking hte gimp).
Right clic, image, colors, levels. This shows the histogram of the luminosity of the picture. This tells me that the luminosity range is low (lightest is light grey, darkest is dark grey). So I expended the range to get true white and true black. Then the picture was really dark, so I moved the mid tones towards white and it brightened the picture.
Then the picture still remained a little unsharp (see, about, faq, "understanding sharpening"). So I used the unsharp filter. The way I do it is :
duplicate the layer, apply sharpening with radius 0.3, quantity 1.5 (rather strong). Then I play with the transparency of the layer until I am satisfied with the result.

If this is all non sense to you, don't worry it will become clear in a matter of weeks at most.

Main thing : to put more emphasis on the subject, I cropped and to give more dynamism I took the boat out of the center of the picture.
The sky is greyish but I didn't change it. I increased the constrat and the saturation a little (+10).

I made a rotation of 1° to the right and narrowed a little the image to give more importance to the verticality of the picture.
