Hello, Alastair.

Just another ringing of the changes. This time, in Photoshop Elements 6. I increased the saturation slightly and also the contrast. I don't understand low-pass filters - maybe I should do a bit of research! I also added a little sharpening with Unsharp Mask.

Anyway, see what you think.

Following John's suggestions, I've used 2 high pass filters overlaid, one at 1, the other at 20, de-speckled a couple of times then decreased the lightness using hue & saturation.

Does this work or is it too much?

Circle selection of the bright area, then filled with colour from near end of barrow. Stopped selection and bucket-filled several times with the same colour. Smudged left-hand edge of this coloured band.

This was the least unsuccessful of several attempts, including trying to use my Christmas indulgence of Adobe Photoshop Cs3 (some excellent deals now that it's been superceded).

I've removed the top portion,to divide picture into three fairly equal sections and also use that nice branch on left side as a natural frame.
