Intro: Photography has held my interest since my youth. My father photographed his seven children with a Pentax K1000, and willingly passed on bits of advice to those who would listen. In 1995, I purchased my first camera from meager savings. I found college photography classes uninspiring, but thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent in the darkroom developing landscape photographs of the wooded areas on campus. Although I now shoot with a digital camera – a Canon 20D or 5D - my experience with film photography laid the groundwork for my artistic career.

I shoot a wide variety of subjects, but landscape photography has captured my heart. I am enthralled by the beauty of water, stone, and sky. There is nothing more remarkable to me than the power of nature – subtle and constant erosion caused by water and wind can create landscapes every bit as astonishing as those shaped by a cataclysmic volcanic eruption. Nature is incredibly diverse – quiet streams and roaring waterfalls, burning desert sands and mossy riverbanks, silent snowfall and raging summer storms… that variety insures that I can never capture the same scene twice in the same way. For me, capturing a unique moment in nature is absolutely satisfying.

Landscape photography is demanding. In order to get the perfect shot, it is necessary to put forth great effort. I love hiking long trails through wilderness, crossing rivers on slippery stones, and climbing sand dunes by the light of the moon. I thrive on rising before the sun in order to capture those first rays of light on the landscape. I am irresistibly drawn to the challenge of finding the right light, in the right place, at the right time. For me, photography is a passion that will last a lifetime.
