I just adjusted the level to brighten the darker areas and used a layer mask. Then I use a neutral graduated filter to darken the foreground area. Hope it is useful.

I just boost the colour a bit and applied a warmer tone. I also applied a vignette so that attention will be focused on the people. Lastly I add a frame.

I just run the High Pass filter through this to compensate for the loss in clarity as the image pass through the low pass filter in your camera.

The steps: (PS CS2)
1. duplicate the image
2. Go to Filter - other - select high pass
3. adjust by moving slider and click OK
4. In the layer palette select "overlay" for the layer mode.
5. flatten and save.

I rotate the picture slightly (0.5 CCW) to level the horizon and then cropped to zoom in on the boat. I would like the viewer to enjoy the boats and the rocks behind without wondering too far out. The curve is kept as it is a strong element here.
Adjusted the level to brighten it slightly.
