As I said I did a tight crop. this way the top of the head missing is not so remarkable.
The red in the background was more noticable so I cloned it out. Probably not too well as I did it quickly, but just to give an idea what it would look like. Let me know what you think

As i said, i really like your photo, but i just want to share my vision of the same moment.

I croped and zoomed the principal motive (boy), turned b&w to raise the dramatism.... add some noise and you get this.

Not better nor worst... just diferent!

someone suggested that background is driving attention grom boy, so ive tried bluring it.. not sure that i suceed, but i had to try;)

I cropped just a little, sharpened some, added a little light (using shadow/highlight), and added a basic frame. I think it may be a bit clearer now, what do you think? I enjoyed playing with it.

Hi Ray, I like the space included in your original, but I wanted to experiment with reducing this space to contain just key elements in the picture.

In PS
* Cropped to square, and enlarged by 20%. I like this format alot and can't wait to buy a camera that actually gives this result.
* Converted to BW using a chanel Mixer layer set at Red 20, green 65, blue 15. Then flattened image.
* Used curves to create a full range of tones and increase contrast.
* Created a new layer for dodge and burn effects. Set at 50% opacity and 'soft light' Dodged the monks robes and picture on the wall to bring detail out of the shadows. Burned the tiles on the floor to cut down on glare and 'harden' it. I also like the way it emphasises the pattern. Also a light burn on the wals to bring out more texture. This has created a more contrasty effect.
* I then sharpened with unsharp mask as much as I could.

I hope you like this workshop, I'm quite happy with it.
