Some ideas of how to deal with the out-of-focus body and washed out wings.

I cropped away as much as I could.

I selected and sharpened the body (which helped some, maybe some careful edge sharpening would be even better).

I used a 'paint brush' and drew in the edges. A very crude job, someone with more artistic skills could do a much better job.

I used 'blur' and 'clone' tools to try to clean up the body. I'm sure that there are tools to copy the detail from the area that is in better focus close to the wings and pasting onto the out-of-focus parts.

I'd really like to see someone with skills tackle this one.

i think this shows the galvanisied clamp texture better.

The effect you are trying to achieve isn't an easy one for any camera, shooting straight into the sun, even if it is partially hidden by the tree just overwhelms the exposure unless taken very early or very late in the day, but it can be rescued.

Here I've used the selective colour tool to alter the whites to a more natural blue, the downside was that where the sun is also became blue, very false looking, so, another little trick, replace the sun with the lens flare filter (set to prime 105mm) and with a bit of luck, we're now seeing what you were seeing!
